Oakite® Aluminum Cleaner 166
Non-silicated, non-etch alkaline soak cleaner for aluminum and its alloys.
Oakite Aluminum Cleaner 166 is a non-silicated, non-etch, powdered alkaline soak cleaner for removing stencil markings, fingerprints, stamping oils, mill oils, light grease and some buffing compounds from aluminum and its alloys. Aluminum Cleaner 166 meets BAC 5749 Alkaline Cleaning Specification.
Combining exceptional cleaning ability with a high degree of safety to aluminum, it’s ideal for cleaning prior to chromating, anodizing, etching, vitreous enameling or other operations where silicate residuals are undesirable.
Oakite Aluminum Cleaner 166 also finds application for soak cleaning of other metals such as steel and galvanized steel prior to phosphating.

APPLICATION PROCEDURES
1. Clean solution tank thoroughly before use.
2. Draw water to operating level of the tank and heat to 49°C (120°F).
3. Add sufficient Oakite Aluminum Cleaner 166, while stirring, to make a working solution of 45 to 60 g/L (6 to 8 oz/gal) of water. Heat from 54° to 66°C (130° to 150°F) maximum, and begin processing parts.
4. Rinse. In most instances, temperatures should not exceed 66°C (150°F), particularly where significant surface oxidation is present. For aluminum alloys having low surface oxidation, somewhat higher temperatures up to 79°C (1 75°F) may be used with safety. Where steel is the metal being cleaned, higher temperatures up to 82°C (180°F) may be used to speed the cleaning action.
Solution Control: Concentrations are titrated using Gardotest Procedure 126. Sample Size: 1.0 mls Factor: 2.4 (oz/gal)
