Oakite® Aluminum Cleaner 166
Aluminum & Aluminum Alloy Alkaline Soak Cleaner: Non-silicated & Non-etch
A Product of Chemetall US, Inc.
Oakite® Aluminum Cleaner 166 is primarily used for removing stamping oils, mill oils, coolants, stencil markings, light grease, fingerprints, and some buffing compounds from aluminum and its alloys while meeting BAC 5749 Alkaline Cleaning Specification. Considered best in its class by those who use 166, it provides a high degree of protection to aluminum. This Aluminum cleaner is also used prior to chromating, anodizing, etching, vitreous enameling or other operations where silicate residuals are undesirable. Oakite Aluminum Cleaner 166 also finds application for soak cleaning of other metals such as steel and galvanized steel prior to phosphating.

APPLICATION
1. Clean solution tank thoroughly before use.
2. Draw water to operating level of the tank and heat to 49ºC (120ºF).
3. Add sufficient Oakite Aluminum Cleaner 166, while stirring, to make a working solution of 45 to 60 g/L
(6 to 8 oz/gal) of water. Heat from 54º to 66ºC (130º to 150ºF) maximum, and begin processing parts.
4. Rinse. In most instances, temperatures should not exceed 66ºC (150ºF), particularly where significant
surface oxidation is present. For aluminum alloys having low surface oxidation, somewhat higher
temperatures up to 79ºC (175ºF) may be used with safety. Where steel is the metal being cleaned,
higher temperatures up to 82ºC (180ºF) may be used to speed the cleaning action.
Solution Control: Concentrations are titrated using Gardotest Procedure 126.
